Real? With today's imaging technology, it's getting harder and harder to tell. What's interesting is how it goes behind the trees, which lends it some credibility. Great job if it's CGI!

UFO video clip - real or not?

I ran across this video of a UFO, and if its a fake, it's a pretty good one. The UFO goes in and out of focus and then you see it go behind a tree. If you look real close, you see it cross the path of a commercial airliner right after it passes the tree.

Stephenville, TX UFO witness claims harassment

Witness to the Stephenville, TX UFO sighting, Ricky Sorrells, claims that he is now being harassed by the military in order to keep him quiet about his UFO sighting.

Among the harassment, he claims, are low fly-bys of helicopters and jets at all hours of the night. He also says that he received a threatening phone call with someone telling him:
"Son, we have the same caliber weapons as you do but a lot more of them."

Sounds like something right out of movies - amazing.

Giant round sinkhole in Guatemala

I know this happened about a year ago (26-FEB-07), but this is my first time to hear about this giant sinkhole in Guatemala City, Guatemala - and its just plain weird. The giant sinkhole, reported to be 100 meters (about 330 feet) deep, swallowed up a dozen homes and killed at least 3 people.

What first strikes me as odd about this sink hole is how round it is. Also, it is claimed to have been caused by a broken sewer main. I used to work for a public utility in the department responsible for the wastewater collection system, and the sink hole explanation is just not consistent with what really happens with a broken sewer main. First, it takes years for even a small sink hole to develop. And they typically are asymetric in shape, and only go as deep as the sewer main itself. What happens is that, over a long period of time, small amounts of soil above the broken main are absorbed into the broken sewage system during heavy rainfalls. Since the soil is going into the sewer main itself, the sink hole does not get any deeper than the sewer main , as the soil would have no where to go. Because it is expensive to excavate for a sewer main, they are put in the ground at about only 3 to 5 feet deep.

There was reported to be a 'river of sewage' at the bottom of the sink hole, as proof of the cause, but that would expected as the sewer mains would break as the earth fell in, making the sewer main collapse and then leak into the sink hole.

So what did cause it, if not a broken sewer main, is a mystery to me. Sure, I concede that the sewer explanation is plausible, although unlikely - which leaves the question - what did cause the giant sinkhole?

UFO sightings in Stephenville, Texas

A UFO was sighted in Stephenville, Texas - a town about 60 southwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The sighting occured on January 8, 2008, just after 6:00pm. What makes this sighting a little extra ordinary is that it was witnessed by 30 to 40 people.

Even better, among the witnesses is a 50 year old pilot, Steve Allen. According to Allen, who was at a campfire with some friends at the time of the sighting, the UFO was about a mile long and half a mile wide! Sounds something similar to the 1997 Phoenix sighting (see photo above), does it not?

Erath Couty Constable Lee Roy Gaitan, was also a witness to the UFO. Although he says he does not know what the object is, he does go on to say that it was definately not an airplane.

Many witnessness have also claimed to see fighter jets chasing the UFO, although the Air Force denied it - initially that is. As we all know, the Air Force does not officially investigate UFOs.

However, Major Karl Lewis, a spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing did say, "I'm 90 percent sure this was an airliner. With the sun's angle, it can play tricks on you." Of course, without any investigation of the UFO incident at all, in my opinion, it makes this explanation completely worthless.

The Airforce did later own up to have some F-16s in the area doing some training maneuvers. Since the UFO was reported as being totally silent, and F-16s are incredibly loud, I don't think they were the source of the UFO sighting.

An interesting note is that a machinists, Ricky Sorrells, saw the UFO through the scope of his rifle and reported it as seemless and metallic. Now, being a fellow Texan, I know that any hunting rifle in the state of Texas probably has some high quality optics sitting on top of barrel. Texans love their rifles. Its probably a safe bet that the scope cost nearly as much as the rifle itself. For what its worth, I imagine he got a pretty clear view with that scope. Now, if you find yourself in a similar situation... just look.... and don't shoot. They probably have a bigger gun!
